Saturday 8/25/2012 - Adding the window

Here is where the window is going, all framed in with 2x4's.  Notice that the wood where the window is going is the back of the cedar siding!!!  On the right you see 1/2 inch plywood, as you should.  But on the left you see shinny stuff.  Well that is 1/2 inch rigid insulation.  By rigid I mean it hold it's shape but you can cut it with a knife.  It has no strength, yet they nailed siding to it.  I have no idea why they did it in only the area they did.  There is plumbing in the wall but they didn't put the insulation behind both, just one sink.  I opted to add supports and rather than reside the house.

And there is a hole in the wall.

Here is a view from the outside.

I made a cedar frame for the window last night so it was just a matter of making it fit.  In the picture below the double pane glass is sitting in the frame and the stained glass is just sitting there.  I wanted to see how much light would come in and if it would be possible to see things, like the trees, through it.  It does give lots of light but you can't make out anything behind it.  We, Gary and I, are planning to add glass around the stained glass to make it fit the window.  We bought the glass but I'm thinking maybe it should be clear, not opaque.  What do you think?

Well it's all done.  There is 3.5" by 1.75" rough cedar that frames the window on the outside, like the rest of the house.  I'll paint it tomorrow.  I was able to do everything from inside, or hanging out the window.  Much better than working on a tall ladder.  The hardest part was cutting the siding around the hole on the outside.  I won't get into how I did, you probably don't want to know. LOL
